Actor Sanjay Suri insists there is no rift between him and director Onir even as the National Award-winning duo parted ways for the actor’s next, My Birthday Song, after working together for 12 years.
Asked about the decision to go solo as producer, Sanjay said: “It’s just that after 12 years we decided to explore creative opportunities separately. It was a conscious decision but there’s been no fight, no fallout. But we needed to get
out of our comfort zone. I see it as a healthy sabbatical.”
The duo co-produced My Brother Nikhil, I Am, Sorry Bhai, Chauranga and Shab.
My Birthday Song, written and directed by Samir Soni, features Sanjay, Nora Fatehi and Zenia Starr in leading roles.
The first film Sanjay and Onir worked on was My Brother… Nikhil, a 2005 film set in Goa. The film also starred Juhi Chawla as Sanjay’s sister.
Sanjay’s character Nikhil was the state all-round swimming champion whose life falls apart after he is diagnosed with HIV.
